Hauptbahnhof/Central Train Station

Let’s make a brief but important stop at the Hauptbahnhof, Munich’s Main Train Station! While it might not be as visually dazzling as some of our other destinations, it’s a vital hub that connects Munich to the rest of Germany and beyond, and even has a few stories to tell.

So, the Hauptbahnhof is always bustling with passengers, workers, and Munich at large. The current station building was largely completed in 1960, replacing older structures that had been damaged or outgrown. Of course, there have been significant additions and renovations since then to modernize the station.

Though many architects contributed, one key component was the rebuilding in the 1950s.

Like so many other buildings in Munich, it was damaged during the bombing of Munich in World War II.

It remains a very modern transport point in the region

And it is vital to the daily function of Munich.
