Prepare for a sensory explosion as we head to the Viktualienmarkt! Get ready to sample local delicacies, browse exotic ingredients, and soak in the lively atmosphere!
So, the Viktualienmarkt wasn’t always a food market. It started out as a farmers market on Marienplatz, but as the city grew, it was moved to its current location.
The name "Viktualienmarkt" comes from the Latin word "victualia," which means "food supplies."
The market is open six days a week (Monday through Saturday), and it attracts locals and tourists alike. It’s a place where you can find everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to artisanal cheeses, meats, and breads.
There are also lots of places to see and taste the offerings of the Munich region and beyond, including:
*Beer Gardens: There is a small beer garden with long, communal tables.
*Gourmet Food Stands: You will find everything from fish, to bread, to cheese, meats and produce. You can get ingredients from all over the world.
*Maypole: Take a look at the decorated Maypole, which changes regularly.
If you are interested in food photography, this is an interesting place to visit!
